It is the second oldest Uni in Egypt and Third in arab world after AzharUni and Elkaryern Uni. It established in the era of Mohamed Ali with faculties of engineering and medicine in 1827. It was closed during Khedive Mohamed said. Then there was public call to establish a modern Uni by Mostafa Kamel.

The Egyptian Sports Federation for Universities is a sports federation affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education. The Egyptian Universities Sports Federation sponsors all sports activities that take place in Egyptian universities through its branches in the governorates of Egypt. It also works to spread sports culture and encourage sports practice opportunities for students in all university bodies that are members of the Federation.
