The Petrified Forest Reserve is located 18 kilometers east of Maadi, north of the Katameya/Ain Sokhna Road, near the city of New Cairo. It is a natural reserve whose lifespan is estimated at about 60 million years. It dates back from the third Kynozoic era, which is estimated to date from 34 to 60 million years.
